Deep hydrophobic treatment

Our deep hydrophobization makes exposed concrete water-repellent and more resistant to weather influences. This process prevents the penetration of water-soluble pollutants and ensures long-term protection over several years. This means your surface is protected without changing the visual appearance of the surface.

At a glance

Deep hydrophobic treatment explained clearly

Deep hydrophobization reduces water absorption in the concrete and protects deeper pore areas. It is useful for concrete components that are permanently exposed to weather and moisture.

Who is this service suitable for?

Relevant for planners, builders, administrations and operators of facades, bridges, traffic and exterior components made of concrete.

Your benefits

  • Deeper moisture protectionHydrophobic active ingredients penetrate suitable absorbent concrete surfaces.
  • Concrete look largely preservedWhen used correctly, the system does not form an opaque film.
  • Support durabilityReduced water absorption can limit moisture-related stress.

Typical challenges and solutions

Moisture penetrates concrete components

Capillary pores absorb water and can accelerate damage processes.

BKOS assesses the absorbency and substrate, selects a suitable hydrophobic system and controls the application.

Water absorption is reduced while the concrete appearance is largely retained.

The surface does not absorb the protective agent sufficiently

Dense surfaces, residual moisture or previous treatments can limit penetration.

BKOS checks suction behavior and pretreatments before determining the system and application quantity.

Unsuitable applications are identified early and the measure can be planned for each property.

Applications

  • Exterior facades and parapets
  • Weather-exposed concrete components
  • Protection after cleaning or renovation

Our approach

  1. Assess the surfaceBKOS checks the type of concrete, suction behavior, damage pattern, contamination and structural conditions directly on the property.
  2. Establish patterns and proceduresDepending on the surface, sampling, choice of material, color, protection system and work sequence are defined.
  3. Implement execution in a controlled mannerThe work is carried out in sections with ongoing monitoring of appearance, adhesion, drying and connection areas.
  4. Acceptance and care instructionsAfter execution, the result, limits and sensible care or protective measures are documented.

Quality and limitations

Deep hydrophobization does not replace the elimination of the cause of active damage. Substrate moisture, suction behavior and application quantity must be checked on a property-specific basis.

What determines the quotation?

  • Absorbency and moisture of the concrete
  • Required penetration depth and application quantity
  • Area size, exposure and access
  • Preparation after cleaning or renovation

Available throughout Switzerland

BKOS works throughout Switzerland for private, commercial and public construction projects. The deployment planning depends on the object, surface, access and appointment window.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about this service

How does deep hydrophobization work?

The hydrophobic agent penetrates the capillary pore structure and reduces water absorption there. The pores are not completely closed, which means water vapor can continue to escape.

What is the difference between deep waterproofing and normal waterproofing?

With deep hydrophobization, the focus is on penetration depth and reduction of capillary water absorption. The term impregnation is used more broadly and can also include systems with a different effect or lower penetration depth.

Does deep water repellency protect against frost and de-icing salt?

The reduced water absorption can reduce frost and de-icing salt loads. However, it does not replace the repair of cracks, spalling or chloride-contaminated concrete and must be part of a suitable protection concept.

Is deep hydrophobization visible on exposed concrete?

Suitable systems usually only change the appearance of the concrete slightly. Nevertheless, sample areas are necessary because the color and water repellency can have different effects depending on the absorbency and pretreatment.

When does deep water repellency have to be renewed?

The time of inspection depends on exposure, penetration depth, use and product. Water absorption can be assessed through tests or comparison areas before renewal is planned.
